President Mary C. Finger Joins Three State and Regional Boards

Seton Hill University President Mary C. Finger, Ed.D. recently joined the boards of three state and regional educational, athletic and arts organizations.

Dr. Finger has been elected to a three-year term to the Board of Directors for the Association of Independent Colleges and Universities of Pennsylvania (AICUP); was elected as an at-large member of the Board of Directors of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC); and was appointed to the Board of Trustees of Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre.

Dr. Finger’s service on all three boards began July 1, 2017.

“I am honored to represent Seton Hill University as a member of the boards of these outstanding organizations dedicated to improving lives through education, athletics and the arts,” Finger said. “I am proud of the manner in which Seton Hill has collaborated with AICUP, the PSAC and Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre, particularly in recent years, and I look forward to expanding our efforts with all three organizations in order to ensure Seton Hill students continue to have an extraordinary university experience.”

“Mary Finger has been a driving force in the success of the partnership Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre and Seton Hill University have developed in recent years that brings PBT artists to Greensburg for dance residencies and world-premiere performances,” said Harris Ferris, executive director of Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre. I look forward to working with her on projects that enhance PBT’s mission, particularly through our community engagement efforts.”

The PSAC consists of 18 institutions located within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, making it the largest NCAA conference regardless of state borders or classifying division. The league is also distinguished as one of the largest football-playing conferences in the NCAA, and, with 23, the PSAC sponsors the second-most championships in Division II. PSAC schools enroll over 125,000 students and claim approximately 775,000 alumni, including over 560,000 who reside in Pennsylvania.

ABOUT PBT

Seton Hill has an ongoing affiliation with Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre, which has included a PBT dance residency and master classes for Seton Hill students and community dancers and an annual PBT performance on the Seton Hill campus. One of the most exciting ballet companies in the United States, Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre has built a legacy of excellence and innovation since 1969. The company’s eclectic style and irrepressible energy have been shaped by a series of distinguished artistic directors over nearly five decades. In the 1980s, former New York City Ballet Principal Dancer Patricia Wilde led the company to new heights and national acclaim with an emphasis on virtuosic technique and works by the modern masters, including her mentor, George Balanchine. Since 1997, the company has flourished under the direction of Terrence S. Orr, former American Ballet Theatre ballet master and principal dancer. Mr. Orr has created a powerful repertoire, including fresh versions of traditional ballets, original works commissioned to contemporary American music and dramatic works that push the boundaries of ballet as an art form. Through more than 50 performances each year at home and on tour, PBT audiences discover the passion and joy of ballet.
