What initially attracted me to Seton Hill was the outstanding athletic department and its exceptional facilities, particularly in soccer. I had the privilege of being recruited to play for the Men's Soccer team at Seton Hill during my final year of high school. Upon visiting the institution and conversing with the coach, I immediately sensed a profound sense of belonging and was drawn to Seton Hill. The journey to the hill itself is a truly distinctive experience, and once situated atop the main campus, the views of Greensburg are truly breathtaking. Finally, a pivotal factor that solidified my decision to enroll at Seton Hill was the cutting-edge cybersecurity program, which captured my interest and ultimately sealed the deal on my commitment to attend Seton Hill.

I have been actively engaged with Seton Hill's Men's Soccer program since 2020. Embarking on my freshman year, I encountered the unfamiliarity of team dynamics and the overall campus environment, an experience that is undoubtedly shared by others. I eagerly participated in an early camp week, anticipating the beginning of my soccer journey. Regrettably, unforeseen circumstances hindered my progress. Following the initial week, I began to experience persistent calf pain and numb sensations from the knee downward. I endured the discomfort for weeks until I decided to confide in the trainer, leading to an appointment with the team doctor. Following a series of consultations and an intensive rehabilitation process, I was diagnosed with compartment syndrome – a condition characterized by heightened pressure within the calf muscle, constricting blood flow, and inducing pain. Ultimately, I underwent surgery, followed by months of dedicated rehabilitation. The doctor eventually determined that continuing to play soccer was no longer feasible for me.

Nonetheless, I persevered and remained a part of the team throughout my sophomore year. However, at the beginning of my junior year, I made the difficult choice to stop playing. Reflecting on this, I gained a valuable life lesson – resignation should never be regarded as a solution. I am still involved with the team, assisting in various capacities, although my physical participation is no longer possible. The soccer team has become a close-knit circle, many of whom I consider my closest friends. This sport has made an unbreakable bond between us, surpassing my initial expectations, and I will forever remain grateful.

I take immense pride in my achievements at Seton Hill, particularly in accomplishing two significant milestones. Firstly, I had the privilege of securing an internship with The Department of Homeland Security in Pittsburgh, an opportunity that provided invaluable professional growth and experience. Secondly, I hold great pride in maintaining a commendable GPA of 3.75, which enabled me to consistently earn a place on the Dean's List at Seton Hill on multiple occasions. These accomplishments testify to my dedication, hard work, and commitment to excellence throughout my academic journey.

One of my primary career aspirations is to attain a full-time position as an employee within the Department of Homeland Security after completing my bachelor of science degree in cybersecurity. I would now like to expand on my internship with HSI Pittsburgh.

Initially nervous about applying for a position at the Department of Homeland Security, I ultimately took the leap, and I am grateful for doing so. The hiring process proved to be extended and meticulous, involving a substantial amount of paperwork encompassing various aspects of my life, such as residence history, associations, and employment details. Following the completion of the paperwork, I endured a waiting period of several months, eagerly anticipating a response regarding my eligibility for an interview. Eventually, I received the gratifying news of being selected for an interview, which took place at the Pittsburgh field office. As a college student with limited experience, this process was notably intimidating. After an additional two-month wait, I received the news of my acceptance and a job offer, signaling the commencement of the background check process. It has been approximately a year since my initial application, and I have now been cleared to embark on my internship journey.

During my time at the Department of Homeland Security, I have been assigned various tasks, including case file review, firearm maintenance, execution of search warrants, and surveillance activities. These responsibilities have exposed me to a range of unexpected experiences, requiring the utilization of diverse skill sets such as safety protocols, time management, organization, investigation techniques, communication, computer proficiency, and firearm safety. Additionally, I had the privilege of participating in a captivating combat training session at a local shooting range, a truly remarkable experience.

One aspect of the job that I had not fully anticipated was the profound mental impact it entails. Cases worked on within the department are often distressing and far from ideal. This realization became particularly challenging when confronted with graphic crimes, evoking deep empathy and concern for the victims. Before applying for the position, I had never envisioned working on such sensitive topics. Nonetheless, despite the difficulties, I have cherished the experiences and the valuable life lessons they have imparted. Moreover, I have had the opportunity to establish meaningful connections with exceptional individuals throughout the department, an aspect for which I remain grateful.
