Sister Miriam Joseph was best known for her extensive knowledge of Shakespeare, whose plays and poems she shared with thousands of Seton Hill students during her 43 years of tenure. She also served as the English Department chairperson for 18 years and she was a gifted lecturer who taught 18th Century literature and poetry with charm, wit, insight and humor. Like Shakespeare, Sister Miriam Joseph had a deep understanding of human nature and like Samuel Johnson, one of her favorite 18th century writers, she had the capacity to "Translate strength of thought into happiness of language.
